Job summary

Royal Mail in Wickford is hiring a Postie to sort and deliver letters and parcels from the Wickford Delivery Office. You will drive a Royal Mail van, walk long distances, and work Sundays as part of a 37-hour week. Full training and an iconic red van are provided.

Salary is £13.68 per hour with paid overtime. Role is fixed-term for 9 months and requires a full manual UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment. Expect outdoor work in all weather.

Location: Wickford Delivery Office, SS11 8AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:00 to 14:30 or 15:30 to 22:00

What You’ll Do

You’ll be required to work Sundays.

• Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
• Deliver post by van and on foot in your local area
• Build relationships with customers
• Work outdoors in all weathers

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
