Job summary

Royal Mail Group is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Poole for a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will deliver letters and parcels, work a 30-hour week across Monday to Sunday, and rotate shifts including weekends. Training is provided and you will wear the iconic red van.

Role involves outdoor work in all weather, building local customer relationships, and possibly overtime. A full manual UK driving licence and ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Job description

Location: Poole Delivery Office, BH15 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30.00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday

Monday to Saturday hours: 08:30 - 14:30

Sunday hours: 10:00 - 16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Winton Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
