Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Northampton for a fixed-term 9‑month contract. The role requires walking, outdoor work, and delivering letters and parcels across the local area, with a shifted schedule including weekends.

You’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van, with a 34-hour week and varying routes according to demand. Salary is £13.68 per hour plus overtime.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Able to pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills and carry 10kg+ mailbags.

Working hours: 34:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 06:55 - 14:40/13:00 - 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Crow Lane Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
