Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Craven Arms is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. The role is 30 hours per week across a rotating schedule, requiring a full manual UK driving licence, and involves delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in the local area.

You’ll be outdoors in all weather, build relationships with customers, and work weekends as needed at Shrewsbury. Training provided; overtime is paid.

Qualifications

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week - working 9 days in 14 Monday - Sunday (5 days one week, 4 the other week) -09:00/15:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Shrewsbury Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
