Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Brandon is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will work 35 hours per week across 5 days in 7, mainly 08:00-16:00, with some weekend work and Sunday shifts at Bury St Edmunds occasionally.

Training is provided, and you’ll drive a Royal Mail van delivering letters and parcels. You must hold a full manual UK driving licence and be prepared for a driving assessment.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 35hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00am/16:00pm*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work around 1 in 4 Sundays at Bury St Edmunds Delivery Office between 09:00am and 16:00pm.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
