Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Ashington is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels across Ashington and surrounding areas. You will work outdoors, in all weather, on a rotating schedule that may include weekends, with a defined 30-hour week and a 15:00–21:00 shift window.

You will be trained, provided with a uniform and a red Royal Mail van, and required to pass a driving assessment while building customer relationships and delivering great service in the community.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated with strong organisation and resilience.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30.00 hours per week - working5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 15:00/21:00*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self‑motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer‑focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
