Job summary

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated Portering Supervisor to lead a team of porters across weekends and nights when managers are off duty. The role focuses on efficient patient and equipment transfers, first-class customer care, and ensuring adherence to service standards.

Applicants should have prior supervision experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy acute hospital environment. Full training is provided.

Qualifications

• Education in basic numeracy and literacy; portering experience preferred.
• Able to lead and motivate a diverse staff group.
• Ability to delegate and prioritise workload.

• Physically fit with ability to perform heavy lifting.
• Flexible, reliable, approachable and committed.

Responsibilities

• Supervise porters on weekends and nights in absence of Portering Manager.
• Provide and maintain a high standard of customer care to staff and patients.
• Transfer patients and medical equipment safely using beds, trolleys and equipment.
• Assist with training and induction of new porters.
• Ensure compliance with Portering Service Standards and audit records.
