Job summary

Circle Health Group’s St Edmunds Hospital in Bury St Edmunds is seeking a Porter to join the Portering team on a bank basis. The role covers “as and when required” shifts to supplement staffing for busy periods and staff leave.

Responsibilities include moving patients, equipment and medicines, escorting patients, and ensuring comfort, dignity and security within the facility. GCSEs in Maths and English and PC skills are expected.

Qualifications

• Front-line customer facing experience is required.
• GCSE Maths/English at A-C or equivalent is required.
• Proficiency in using a PC and hospital systems is required.
• Portering experience in healthcare or hospitality is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Move patients, equipment and goods around the site as needed.
• Escort patients to rooms or hospital areas and explain facilities.
• Provide courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Assist in maintaining patient comfort and dignity at all times.
• Support security processes and respond to security needs of the facility.
• Complete mandatory training as required.

We have an opportunity for a Porter to join their team of staff in the Portering department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to-day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.
• Explain hospital facilities and services to patients and family members when escorting people to rooms or other hospital areas.
• Provide a courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity are always maintained.
• Provide security for the facility as required within each specific hospital, ensuring compliance of security processes and external patrols are covered as appropriate to the hospital.
• Comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Front line customer facing experience.
• Previous portering experience in a healthcare, hotel or hospitality setting would be beneficial.
• Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
