Job summary

Circle Health Group's Thornbury Hospital is seeking a Porter on a bank basis to support the portering team across shifts. This role is an as‑and‑when‑required position, with duties including patient and equipment movement and assisting with hospital services.

You will be front-line in a healthcare setting, requiring good English and maths GCSEs, PC proficiency and a courteous, safety-conscious approach. Salary is £12.21 per hour, with bank shifts across various times.

Qualifications

• Front line customer facing experience required.
• Portering experience in healthcare, hotel or hospitality beneficial.
• GCSE Maths and English at A-C or equivalent.
• Proficiency in using a PC and hospital systems.

Responsibilities

• Move patients, equipment and goods (e.g., pharmacy items) around the site.
• Escort patients and visitors, explaining hospital facilities and services.
• Provide courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity at all times.
• Provide security for the facility and follow security procedures.
• Complete mandatory training as required.

Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Porter to join their team of staff in the Portering department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to‑day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.
• Explain hospital facilities and services to patients and family members when escorting people to rooms or other hospital areas.
• Provide a courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity are always maintained.
• Provide security for the facility as required within each specific hospital, ensuring compliance of security processes and external patrols are covered as appropriate to the hospital.
• Comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Front line customer facing experience.
• Previous portering experience in a healthcare, hotel or hospitality setting would be beneficial.
• Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
