Job summary

Viridor in Tilbury, Essex, is hiring Auxiliary Plant Operatives to join our team, working a 40-hour week with night shifts. You will operate in the boiler house and turbine hall, support the Shift Team Leader, and help ensure safe, efficient plant operation.

We offer a salary of £37,472 per year, plus shift and location allowances, plus annual bonus and an attractive benefits package. The role requires GCSE English and Maths, a full UK driving licence, and a commitment to safety and training.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths required.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Understanding of safe systems of work, including isolations and permits.
• Experience using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
• Experience training or mentoring employees.
• Experience in the waste management or energy-from-waste sector.
• Excellent attendance and timekeeping record.

Responsibilities

• Carry out operational activities within the boiler house and turbine hall safely, professionally and efficiently.
• Support the Shift Team Leader in maintaining the safe and effective operation of the facility.
• Conduct routine plant inspections, monitor machinery performance and identify potential issues.
• Maintain accurate shift logs and provide comprehensive handovers between shifts.
• Assist with plant shutdowns, start-ups and frontline maintenance activities.
• Support tipping hall operations when required.
• Operate mobile plant and machinery safely and effectively.
• Coordinate the safe unloading of plant consumables including lime, carbon, ammonia, diesel and industrial heating oil.
