Job summary

The Phlebotomist role at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust involves performing venepuncture and specimen handling for inpatients, outpatients and GP referrals within a busy hospital setting. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to high standards of service delivery and patient care.

You will work flexibly on a 7-day rota, including weekends and bank holidays, and interact with patients and staff across laboratory and clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Experience of dealing with patients and staff in hospital environment or Blood Test Clinics will be of benefit.
• Proficiency in venepuncture is integral to the role.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, clinical staff, and external clients regarding test requests in a professional and approachable manner.
• Order stock from Main Stores to maintain adequate supplies of stock items and rotate stock as needed.
• Participate in staff rotas and support the Phlebotomy Supervisor to ensure adequate staffing for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Work one-to-one with patients following competency assessment by the Phlebotomy Supervisor/Manager.
• Positively check patient identification by verbal communication and IP wrist bands scanning.
• Accurately and legibly label samples.
• Raise Phlebotomy requests through appropriate channels.
• Understand factors affecting selection of venepuncture sites.
• Able to perform venepuncture on sites other than sub cubital fossa.
