Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Phlebotomist (Band 3) to join a well‑established service delivering blood sampling across Buckinghamshire. The role involves working at Wycombe Hospital and supporting other teams to ensure timely access to care.

The post requires venepuncture skills, strong communication and a patient‑centred approach, with flexible working options and NHS benefits, including generous annual leave and pension.

Qualifications

• GCSE pass in Math & English.
• HCA or Nursing qualification
• NVQ in Health Science

Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture and capillary blood sampling across hospital wards, outpatient clinics, GP surgeries, community locations and patients' homes.
• Obtain informed consent prior to all procedures.
• Label samples with correct tubes, draw order and needle size, and ensure accurate labelling and handling.
• Provide clear pre-test instructions to patients.
• Support anxious or needle-phobic patients throughout procedures.
• Escalate complications to the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• Manage computer-generated ward and outpatient phlebotomy lists.
• Maintain accurate audit records and pathology request forms.
• Support training and induction of new phlebotomy staff.
• Maintain stocks of consumables and adhere to infection control policies.
• Work flexibly across multiple Trust sites as required.
