Job summary

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two part-time Phlebotomists to join the busy West Berkshire team in Thatcham. You will perform venous blood collection with a focus on patient comfort, label specimens accurately, and ensure timely transport to the lab.

The role includes shift patterns across weekdays and alternating Saturdays. We welcome applicants with a phlebotomy background, a GCSE in Maths and English, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy qualification or equivalent.
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time, enthusiastic band 3 Phlebotomist to join our CQC rated ‘Outstanding’ Trust.

Based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, you will be working with a team of Phlebotomists. The department is expanding its opening hours and will be open between Monday to Friday between 08:00-18:00 hrs and on alternative Saturday mornings between 08:00-13:00 hrs. We are a busy, dynamic department and would like to hear from suitable qualified people.

You will have had recent phlebotomy experience (minimum 6 months) and are expected to complete our local competency assessments.

This post is for 2 positions: 22.5 hours per week, working various different shift times, and 33.5 hours per on a 2 weekly working pattern.

Week one: Monday-0800-1800, Wednesday-0800-1800, Friday-0800-1800 and Saturday-0800-1300.

Week two: Monday-0800-1800, Tuesday-0800-1300, Wednesday-0800-1800 and Friday-0800-1800.

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
  • Ensure safe collection of blood samples according to agreed procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate labelling and dispatch specimens to laboratories.
  • To answer the telephone and deal with calls politely and efficiently.
