Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a vigilant Security Officer to protect patients, staff and assets across the site. The role operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with tasks including responding to emergencies, patrolling areas, managing intruder alarms and deterring unauthorised parking.

You will undertake PaMOVA and basic risk assessments, work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and use standard IT systems. On‑the‑job training lasts 4–6 weeks.

Qualifications

• PaMOVA training level 1 & 2
• Working knowledge Health & Safety including risk assessment
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Working knowledge of basic information technology and training/onboarding process

Responsibilities

The Role

Service operates 24hours, 365 days a year.

To respond, on average, to 190,000 annual tasks involving the moving and handling of patients and goods across the site

To respond to a range of emergency, fire, intruder activations in line with agreed procedures.

To patrol site and sticker unauthorised/inappropriate parked vehicles

To support staff to defuse potential violent and aggressive situations in line with appropriate training

In this key role, you will:

• To complete and comply with all tasks as requested and allocated through the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system .
• To undertake all duties having regard for patient needs / service requirements and the required service standards agreed.
• To patrol identified areas of the hospital ensuring that all doors and windows are secure reporting any untoward circumstances to charge hands/manager and taking appropriate action as instructed.
• Attend intruder alarm activation and respond in line with the agreed training /standard operating procedur.

What You'll Bring

• Required to undertake on the job training and induction (this will generally take 4-6 weeks, depending on hours/days worked), to achieve full competency across a range of duties.
• Required to undertake Prevention, Assessment & Management of Violence & Aggression (PaMOVA) training level 1 and 2
• Working knowledge Health & Safety including participation in risk assessing individual tasks
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
• Working knowledge of basic information technology
