Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team. You will provide care under the supervision of a registered nurse, support ward routines, and help maintain hygiene, comfort and safety for patients.

The role includes evening shifts 3pm-10pm, and requires SVQ III in healthcare or equivalent. You will develop skills through training and contribute to high-quality patient care while collaborating with staff.

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse, and will regularly work unsupervised.

The post holder will carry out assigned duties to maintain hygiene, order and safety within the ward environment.

Duties may vary with the type of ward/department and the degree of patient dependency.

The working pattern for this role will require 4 evening shifts per week for the hours of 3pm-10pm

In this key role, you will:

• Carry out assigned tasks to deliver and support direct patient care, under the direction of a registered nurse, to ensure delivery of a high quality of patient care e.g.
  • Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures.
  • Assist with admission, transfer and dischare of patients.
  • Assist in the collection of routine urine/blood specimens.
  • Monitor and order supplies and carry out required housekeeping duties, in order to support patient care.
  • Provide escort duties as required.
  • Undertake recording of patient vital signs and report results to registered staff.
  • Assist in maintenance and improvement of patient mobility in conjumction and in support of other members of the multidisciplinary team to continue rehabilitation.
  • Report observed changes in the patients physical and psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up to date records, to ensure effective communication.
  • Carry out pre-use checks on some equipment, as specified in relevant protocols e.g. blood glucose monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare equipment and procedure trolleys as per procedure manuals, etc.
• Commitment to ongoing personal development, as identified personally or due to the needs of the services
• Participate in personal career development planning to maintain skills and develop personal growth through training and education.
• Knowledge of all relevant National and Local Policies, legislation, procedures, etc
