Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a vigilant security professional to help maintain a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors across its hospital sites. You will patrol internal and external areas, respond to alarms and support clinical staff with de-escalation when needed.

The role emphasizes compassionate service, adherence to safety procedures and clear communication to prevent incidents while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for everyone on site.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure a security presence across all areas of the hospital to deliver a polite, efficient and compassionate service.
• Patrol the site and record unauthorised/inappropriate vehicle parking in line with SOPs.
• Attend intruder alarm activations and respond per procedures.
• Undertake regular physical patrols of the hospital site as scheduled.
• Support nursing/clinical staff by using de-escalation techniques to defuse potential violence.
• Ensure safety and consideration of patients, staff and visitors at all times.

The Role

• To be observant in helping to reduce/ prevent crime on the UHM Site
• To assist in providing a safe and secure environment for Patients, Staff, Visitors
• To undertake regular patrol of the internal and external site of the UHM sites.
• To provide help and advice to Patients, Visitors and Staff
• To be an advocate for NHSL whilst undertaking their role.

In This Key Role, You Will

• Ensure a security presence is provided throughout all areas of the hospital in order to deliver a polite, efficient and compassionate service to patients, visitors and staff
• To patrol the site, ensuring vehicles parked in an unauthorised/inappropriate manner are stickered and record of such maintained in line with training/standard operating procedure provided
• Attend intruder alarm activation and respond in line with the agreed training /standard operating procedure/policies
• Undertake physical patrols of hospital site in line with the agreed schedule
• To support nursing/clinical staff by using de-escalation techniques in an effort to defuse potential violent and aggressive situations
• Ensure the safety and consideration of patients, staff and visitors at all times whilst performing tasks

What You'll Bring

The post holder will be expected to gain an understanding of a range of work procedures gained through induction and training. The required skills include but are not limited to.

• Level of H&S Knowledge in line with NHSL and departmental policies and (SOP’s)
• Communication skills that are supportive, empathetic, compassionate and have the ability to de-escalate difficult conversations
• Knowledge of site lay out
• Basic knowledge of CCTV
• Requires a professional and sympathetic approach to people
• To be physically fit and be able to understand and react correctly and quickly to incidents remaining competent under pressure.
• Use of communication equipment
• Use of monitoring systems
