Job description

On behalf of Dukes Education Group

Job Title: People Advisor

Location: West London (onsite) - Notting Hill Prep School and Bassett House Prep School

Do you want to work in an environment where every day brings a new challenge?

Do you love being autonomous, setting your own priorities each day?

Are you prepared to roll up your sleeves and do everything from detailed administration to case management to employee engagement and recognition?

Have you thought about continuing your HR career in the education sector?

Notting Hill Prep School and Bassett House Prep School are seeking an experienced HR Advisor / People Advisor to work across both sites, which are a short walk from each other in Ladbroke Grove / Notting Hill. Previous experience in the education sector is not necessary for this role - training on KCSIE and relevant regulations will be provided.

Candidates should be enthusiastic self-starters with a professional outlook and the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding, and managing new starter and leaver procedures.
  • Experience supporting employee wellbeing, including supporting colleagues who are absent due to long-term sickness or who require reasonable adjustments due to health conditions or disabilities.
  • Strong experience maintaining effective HR administration systems, including an HR database, with high attention to detail and accountability for high-quality work.
  • Proven knowledge of employment law and its application in the workplace.
  • Able to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience handling grievance, disciplinary, performance, and attendance cases, including advising managers and issuing relevant documentation and letters.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification is desirable.

The role involves:

  • Wellbeing and engagement initiatives for both schools.
  • Managing recruitment processes and checks, including following safer recruitment guidance for schools.
  • Managing employee relations, including disciplinaries, grievances, attendance, performance processes, and long-term sickness cases.
  • All HR administration related to the schools, including updating the HRIS and maintaining the Single Central Record.
  • Managing all elements of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, leavers, promotions, job descriptions, and contracts.
  • Maintaining and developing HR policies, and providing advice, training, and guidance to managers on policies and procedures.
  • This role will be based onsite five days per week during term-time, with potential flexibility during school holidays, as agreed with the Headteacher.
Safeguarding and Child Protection

Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the DBS.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974). We may ask applicants to declare all convictions and cautions, including those which are 'spent' unless protected under DBS filtering rules, to assess suitability to work with children.
