Job Title: People Advisor

Location: West London (onsite)

Notting Hill Prep School and Bassett House Prep School are seeking an experienced HR Advisor / People Advisor to work across both sites which are a short walk from each other in Ladbroke Grove / Notting Hill. Previous experience in the education sector is not necessary for this role – training on KCSIE and the relevant regulations will be provided.

Candidates should be enthusiastic self-starters with a professional outlook and the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding and managing new starter and leaver procedures.
  • Experience of supporting employee wellbeing, including supporting colleagues who are absent due to long-term sickness or who require reasonable adjustments to be made due to health conditions or disabilities.
  • Strong experience of maintaining effective HR administration systems, including an HR database, with a high level of attention to detail and a sense of accountability for delivering a high standard of work.
  • Proven knowledge of employment law and its application in the working environment.
  • Able to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong experience of grievance, disciplinary, performance and attendance cases, including providing advice to managers and issuing all relevant documentation and letters.
  • CIPD Level 5 is desirable.

The role involves:

  • Wellbeing and engagement initiatives for both schools.
  • Managing recruitment processes and checks including following safer recruitment guidance for schools.
  • Managing employee relations at both schools including disciplinaries, grievances, attendance and performance processes, long-term sickness absence cases.
  • All HR administration relating to the schools, including updating the HRIS and maintaining the Single Central Record.
  • All elements of employee lifecycle including new starters, leavers, promotions, JDs and contracts.
  • Maintaining and developing HR policies, and providing advice, training and guidance to managers on policies and procedures.
  • Due to the requirements of the schools, this role will be based onsite five days per week during term-time, with the possibility of greater flexibility during school holidays as agreed with the Headteacher.

Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and we are therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
