Role Mission:

The People Advisor plays a pivotal role in providing proactive HR support to line managers, acting as the lead advisor on employee relations (ER) matters, and contributing to the design and implementation of key people-related initiatives. This role is integral to driving a high-performance culture, ensuring HR best practices, and enhancing employee experience across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactive HR Support to Line Managers

    • Partner with managers to provide coaching and guidance on people management, leadership, and team development

    • Support managers in resolving performance management issues, providing advice on coaching, PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans), and development strategies

    • Drive engagement and retention by working closely with leaders to foster a positive employee experience and culture

    • Identify and implement HR best practices to enhance team effectiveness and employee engagement

    • Provide training sessions/workshops to managers on topics such as effective people management, ER processes, and conflict resolution

  • Employee Relations (ER) Lead Advisor

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary cases, performance issues, and workplace investigations.

    • Provide expert advice to managers and employees on employment law, company policies, and best HR practices.

    • Conduct investigations and hearings where necessary, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies and procedures.

    • Collaborate with legal counsel and HR leadership to mitigate employment risks and ensure compliance with labour laws.

    • Maintain accurate ER records and track trends to proactively address emerging workplace concerns

  • Lead / Contribute to Key People Initiatives

    • Act as an integral team member and sometimes lead on the design, development, and delivery of key HR programs and initiatives such as:

      • Employee engagement and well-being programs

      • Performance management enhancements

      • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives

      • Talent development and career progression frameworks

    • Monitor the impact and effectiveness of HR initiatives through data-driven insights, making recommendations for improvements where necessary.

    • Collaborate with senior HR colleagues and business leaders to align people initiatives with the company’s strategic goals.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Employee Relations Expertise: Strong working knowledge of ER case management, employment law, and HR best practices.

  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to build trust-based relationships with line managers and employees.

  • HR Policy & Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with HR policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

  • Problem-Solving & Decision Making: Confidence in handling complex ER cases and providing sound, legally compliant advice.

  • Communication & Influence: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to challenge constructively and influence outcomes.

  • Project Management: Experience in leading or contributing to HR projects and people initiatives.

  • Data & Insight Driven: Ability to use HR analytics and insights to inform people strategy and decision-making.

  • Confidentiality & Integrity: Strong ethical approach to managing sensitive employee information

Qualifications & Experience

  • CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent) qualification preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in an HR Advisor, People Partner, or Employee Relations Specialist role.

  • Proven track record of handling employee relations cases and advising managers on HR matters.

  • Experience working on HR initiatives and projects that drive organisational improvement.

  • Strong understanding of employment law and HR compliance within UK.
