Job summary

Simply Jobsworth in Worcestershire is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to own the end-to-end payroll process on a 14-month fixed term contract. You will ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining HMRC compliance and high service standards.

This hands-on role covers payroll operations, reporting and payroll accounting, with responsibility for supervising a Payroll Officer and collaborating with Finance and HR colleagues to keep processes efficient and reliable.

Qualifications

• Experience managing payroll end-to-end.
• Strong knowledge of Sage Payroll.
• Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliations.
• Knowledge of HMRC requirements and UK payroll legislation.
• Experience supervising or supporting colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Oversee weekly and monthly payrolls ensuring deadlines are met.
• Maintain employee payroll records including starters, leavers and changes.
• Submit RTI returns and manage year-end processes (P60s, P11Ds).
• Reconcile payroll reports and respond to queries promptly.
• Ensure payroll practices comply with HMRC and UK payroll legislation.
• Use Sage Payroll to maintain data and generate reports.
• Prepare payroll journals and reconcile control accounts.
• Support month-end and year-end finance activities and audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and keep systems up to date.
