Job summary

Bodnant Medical Centre in Bangor is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our friendly primary care team. You will provide a high-quality, patient-centred phlebotomy service to our registered patients, performing venepuncture safely for adults and children where appropriate.

We value infection prevention, accurate record-keeping and clear communication with patients and colleagues. Experience in GP settings and knowledge of NHS Wales procedures are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a GP practice.
• Phlebotomy training and demonstrable venipuncture competence.
• Understanding of infection prevention and control.
• Understanding of patient confidentiality and information governance.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow clinical procedures and practice protocols.
• Commitment to safeguarding patients and maintaining professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Undertake venepuncture safely and effectively for adults and, where appropriate, children.
• Confirm patient identity and ensure appropriate consent before procedures.
• Correctly label and handle blood samples in accordance with practice and laboratory procedures.
• Prepare samples appropriately for transportation to the laboratory.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
• Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, relatives and the wider healthcare team.
• Report any clinical concerns, incidents, equipment issues or difficulties with venepuncture to the appropriate staff.
