Job summary

Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG) seeks a dedicated Pastoral Support Mentor to join the Learner Services Team across campuses, including Cheadle. You will support learners' social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, and personal development to help them achieve their potential.

The role involves 1:1 and group sessions, safeguarding duties, and collaboration with centre managers and curriculum teams to address achievement, retention and behaviour.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with learners identified as at risk and/or vulnerable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding aligned to policy for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Relationship-based practice in interactions with learners.
  • Business insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake group and 1:1 meetings with learners needing intervention.
  • Collaborate with Centre Manager and curriculum teams on intervention plans.
  • Build supportive relationships to aid personal and social development.
  • Assist with delivery of mental health and wellbeing strategy for vulnerable students.
  • Identify concerns and barriers, working with parents and external agencies.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead when required and attend multi‑agency meetings.
  • Collaborate on Personal Education Plans for care‑experienced young people.

Role: Pastoral Support Mentor (with DDSL Responsibilities)

Hours: 36.25 hours per week, Permanent – Full Time

Salary: £30,204 - £32,013 FTE

Employer Pension Contribution: 15%

Location: Trafford and Stockport College Group ( Cheadle Campus - SK8 5HA)

The Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG) has a fantastic opportunity for a new Pastoral Support Mentor to join the Learner Services Team across various campuses to help us achieve our vision of unlocking potential and fostering success by helping young people to become their best self.

The Job:

In this role you will work collaboratively with learners to achieve and progress by supporting them in relation to their social and emotional wellbeing, their mental health and any personal and college issues that prevent them from achieving their potential. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • To undertake group and 1:1 meetings with a cohort of learners identified as requiring intervention.
  • To work collaboratively with the Centre Manager and curriculum teams to follow up concerns regarding achievement, retention and/or behaviour to create a tiered intervention approach.
  • To build and maintain supportive relationships (one to one and small groups) to assist in the personal and social development of students by providing appropriate guidance and support.
  • To assist the Centre Manager with all aspects of delivery of the Group’s mental health, emotional and social wellbeing strategy to provide support for the most vulnerable students at college.
  • To identify concerns, risks and barriers to students’ progress and work with parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies in order to overcome them.
  • To act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead whenever required and act on student safeguarding referrals within the allocated departmental area, attending any relevant multi‑agency meetings.
  • To collaborate with other professionals in the completion of Personal Education Plans for care experienced young people.
About you:

To be successful in this role you must have

  • Experience working with learners who have been identified as "at risk" and/or vulnerable.
  • An understanding of safeguarding in line with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy.
  • Relationship practice at the heart of all interactions with learners.
