Job summary

Pastoral Mentor – Construction at Kirklees College works mainly at Brunel Construction Centre with occasional travel to Springfield Centre at Dewsbury, providing 1:1 and small-group coaching to support students’ personal development, wellbeing, behaviour, and progression.

You will remove barriers to learning, help students feel safe and supported, and act as a safeguarding contact for a defined caseload while contributing to staff development and college values of kindness, unity and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with “hard to reach” 14–19yearolds in an educational environment.
  • Strong coaching and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently with young people, support their progression, and demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in everything you do.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 reviews, targeted interventions and pastoral coaching.
  • Support students identified as “at risk”, helping them overcome personal, social and academic barriers.
  • Act as a lead contact for safeguarding disclosures for a defined caseload and coordinate followup support.

In the role of Pastoral Mentor, you’ll work predominately at our Brunel Construction centre with occasional travel to our Springfield Centre at Dewsbury providing 1:1 and small-group coaching to support students’ personal development, wellbeing, behaviour, and progression. You will play a vital role in removing barriers to learning and ensuring students feel safe, supported and able to succeed.
