Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is seeking a Pastoral Mentor / Teaching Assistant in Wigston, Leicester. You will support pupils with learning and wellbeing, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to help students feel settled and ready to learn.

The role involves 1:1 and group assistance, fostering social and emotional development, and promoting positive engagement across the school day. A patient, adaptable attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people.
• Patient, approachable and encouraging manner.
• Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
• Confident providing practical and emotional support.
• Reliable, adaptable and committed.
• Experience in education, care, youth work or SEN (not essential).
• Driver's license would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group learning and pastoral support.
• Helping pupils who may need additional encouragement or guidance.
• Supporting children with their social and emotional development.
• Encouraging positive engagement with lessons and school activities.
• Building strong, positive relationships with pupils.
• Helping young people develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Supporting pupils to overcome barriers that may affect their learning.
• Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to understand individual needs.
• Supporting pupils across different parts of the school day, including lessons and break times.
• Encouraging positive attitudes towards education and personal development.
• Contributing to a calm, safe and welcoming learning environment.
• Celebrating pupil progress and encouraging them to achieve their potential.
