Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment is helping a welcoming primary school in Great Barr recruit a practical School Caretaker for a 25-hour-per-week contract. The successful candidate will maintain safety and cleanliness, open/secure premises, monitor alarms, carry out routine checks, and report issues.

DBS check required or willingness to obtain. The role suits someone with hands-on maintenance experience, a good eye for detail, and a proactive, reliable approach with a focus on a safe school

Qualifications

• Experience in caretaking, facilities, or a similar hands-on role.
• Practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• Understanding of health and safety in a school setting.
• Willingness to obtain Enhanced DBS and provide references.
• Excellent communication with staff and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Daily site maintenance and upkeep.
• Open and secure premises as required.
• Operate alarms and support site security.
• Conduct routine checks and inspections.
• Report major maintenance issues promptly.
• Carry out minor repairs and DIY tasks.
• Support health and safety procedures.
• Assist with cleaning and room preparations.
• Liaise with contractors and external service providers.
