Job summary

Co-op Group in Hitchin is seeking a part-time Funeralcare team member to support families and manage day-to-day duties in our funeral home.

This role involves direct contact with the deceased as part of duties, maintaining a professional, dignified environment and offering opportunities to grow within our community-focused team.

Qualifications

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to handle numbers and basic calculations (cash handling, discounts, data entry).
• Keen eye for detail and accuracy, compliant with policies.
• Proficient IT skills across devices and systems; quick to learn new apps.
• Passion for delivering great service and building relationships.
• High levels of empathy, discretion and care.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as moving coffins with training provided.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and the community.
• Support clients in person and by phone, arranging family visits and answering questions.
• Keep the funeral home clean, safe, and welcoming; report maintenance issues as needed.
• Use digital systems to manage client documentation, funeral arrangements and invoicing.
• Refer regulated work (e.g., funeral plans) to Funeral Plan Arrangers.
• Assist with manual handling of coffins and care of the deceased for viewing.
• Update client management applications with timely and accurate information.
