Job summary

Royal Mail is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Jarrow to deliver letters and parcels on a 25-hour week, across Monday–Sunday with 10:00–15:00 or 15:00–20:00 shifts. You will sort mail at the office, drive a Royal Mail van, and walk routes to reach customers in the community.

Role includes working Sundays at Valley Delivery Office (NE11 0UE) on a rotating schedule. Full training, uniform, and a recognisable red van are provided, with benefits and overtime when available.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 25:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 10:00 - 15:00/15:00 - 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

About You
