Auto Skills UK is seeking a Paint Preparation Technician in Bishop's Stortford. The role focuses on preparing accident-damaged vehicles for refinishing, with hands-on bodyshop duties and a Monday–Friday pattern.

A strong emphasis on quality, attention to detail and efficient workflow is required. The ideal candidate will have proven bodyshop experience, be skilled in sanding, filling, masking, priming and polishing, and hold a full UK driving licence.

If you're an experienced Paint Preparation Technician / Paint Prepper / Vehicle Paint Prepper with strong hands-on Bodyshop experience, this is an excellent opportunity to join a professional accident repair environment where preparation quality, attention to detail, and efficient working are essential.

This role is particularly suited to a technician who is confident across the complete preparation process. You must be skilled in sanding, flatting, filling, masking, polishing and priming, with previous experience working within a professional Bodyshop environment.

THE ROLE

As a Paint Preparation Technician, you'll be responsible for preparing accident-damaged vehicles and panels ready for refinishing, ensuring every repair reaches the required standard before entering the spray booth.

Key responsibilities include:

• Sanding and flatting repaired panels to create a smooth, even surface ready for refinishing.
• Filling and preparing damaged areas to ensure panels are correctly prepared for paint application.
• Masking vehicles and components accurately to protect areas that are not being refinished.
• Applying primers and preparation products using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Carrying out polishing and finishing work to achieve a high-quality surface ready for final presentation.
• Inspecting prepared panels and identifying imperfections requiring further preparation.
• Working closely with Paint Sprayers, Panel Beaters, and other Bodyshop technicians to maintain an efficient repair process.
• Maintaining tools, preparation equipment, and the working area in a clean, safe, and professional condition.

ABOUT YOU

This opportunity would suit an experienced Paint Preparation Technician / Paint Prepper / Vehicle Paint Prepper / Bodyshop Prepper with proven accident repair experience.

You MUST have professional Bodyshop experience and be confident carrying out all of the following:

• Sanding
• Flatting
• Filling
• Masking
• Polishing
• Priming
• Previous experience working within a professional Bodyshop or accident repair environment.
• Strong understanding of vehicle paint preparation and refinishing processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality preparation work.
• The ability to work efficiently while maintaining consistently high standards.
• Strong organisation and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy Bodyshop team.
• A full UK driving licence.
