Paediatric Clinical Practice Facilitator

UCLH Emergency Department is seeking a highly motivated Paediatric Band 6 Nurse who is enthusiastic about practice development. We are looking for a nurse with experience of working in a Children and Young Peoples Emergency Department to contribute to providing the best care for our patients through supporting the nursing team in the delivery of high standards of patient‑focused, evidence‑based care. Applicants need to be strong communicators and demonstrate an ability to train, assess, educate and develop others, work well autonomously and within a creative team. You will work with the Emergency Services Division CPF team, Matron, Senior Nurses and Nurses in Charge to develop best practice and nursing skills. You will have the opportunity to work with all nursing staff to support their education and development. You will help to develop and implement a training needs analysis and proactively engage with education and research agendas for nursing. You will also work with the wider community of Clinical Practice Facilitators, educational staff and others at all levels across the Trust to create excellent opportunities for your professional development.

This role will provide you with an excellent scope and support for furthering your knowledge of undergraduate and postgraduate education, practice‑based and academic learning.

The Clinical Practice Facilitator role is a full‑time post working Monday to Friday, although there is potential for flexibility with rotas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will combine clinical leadership with education, staff development, and practice facilitation in the Emergency Department (ED). They will support the nursing team in delivering high standards of patient‑focused, evidence‑based care while also providing education and training to staff to ensure competency and professional growth.

Job responsibilities
  • Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients.
  • Take responsibility for protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and clients.
  • Assess care and health education needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.
  • Be designated to take charge of the ward/department regularly in the absence of the person holding continuing responsibility.
  • Work in accordance with UCLH Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust's Top 10 Objectives.
  • Maintain effective communication.
  • Provide a high standard of holistic, patient‑centred care.
  • Act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to student nurses and others and participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate.
  • Support and develop nursing staff through facilitation in clinical practice and promotion/implementation of relevant education and development pathways.
  • Facilitate acquisition of the necessary skills, knowledge and competency by staff and their mentors in designated areas within the trust.
  • Work alongside staff to develop emergency skills in relation to triage, plastering and leading areas.
  • Promote and facilitate the implementation of evidence‑based nursing practice.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
  • Relevant teaching course
  • RCN Level 2 competencies or equivalent
  • BSc/degree or working towards
  • Emergency nursing course or equivalent
  • NMTNG Level 2 (Trauma) competencies or equivalent
Experience
  • 2 years post‑registration paediatric experience
  • Experience of working in A&E
