Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking an Outdoor Education Mentor / Forest School Practitioner for an Alternative Provision setting in Burnley. You will lead outdoor learning for KS3/KS4 pupils with SEMH needs, using woodland projects to build resilience and teamwork, in a stable daytime role.

Experience in Forest School or outdoor leadership is valued; QTS not required. DBS and safeguarding are essential; 8:30–16:30, Monday to Friday, with a clear path to permanent placement up to £33k per year.

Qualifications

Experience as a Forest School Leader (Level 2 or 3).
Experience as Scout/Guide Leader, Outdoor Education Instructor, or similar outdoor educator role.
Able to connect with disaffected youth outside traditional classrooms.

Responsibilities

Hands-On Outdoor Sessions: lead practical woodland tasks including bushcraft, fire craft, shelter building, and nature conservation.
Nurture & de-escalation: apply calm boundaries and low-arousal strategies for upset pupils.
Life Skills & Accreditation: help students work toward entry-level awards or DofE modules.
Teamwork & Co-Regulation: foster peer communication and resilience through outdoor challenges.
Safety & Safeguarding: maintain risk assessments and record pastoral notes.
