JAM Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to establish and grow an M&E business unit across Cornwall. The role offers £65,000 to £80,000 plus package and suits an experienced electrical contracts professional.

You will deliver schemes up to £3m across healthcare, education and commercial sectors, lead a local team, and build client relationships with main contractors while ensuring safety, budgets and programme targets are met.

• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, installation and design principles.
• Full UK driving licence.

Job description

Reporting to senior leadership, the Operations Manager will establish and grow an M&E business unit across Cornwall. This permanent post, offering £65,000 to £80,000 plus package, suits an experienced electrical contracts professional.

Duties include managing delivery of schemes within healthcare, education and commercial sectors, overseeing safety, budgets and programme targets, and developing client relationships with main contractors. The successful candidate will recruit and lead a local team, win further work, and ensure projects meet agreed standards. Strong commercial awareness, electrical contracting knowledge and proven leadership within building services are essential. Standard hours apply, with travel expected throughout the South West region.

Role

Working for a range of clients and main contractors, you will be responsible for the safe and successful delivery of multiple projects with contract values of up to £3m which include new build and refurbishment schemes. Duties will include:

• Business development, identifying new opportunities in the region
• Building strong working relationships with existing clients and supply chain partners
• Contracts managing up to 4 schemes at any one time
• Leading preconstruction functions having involvement in tendering and design management
• Oversee the recruitment, management and development of staff
• Collaborate with the commercial team to oversee project budgets, procurement, and forecasting for the business unit
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Report into board level on project and region performance

The Person

Proven experience as an Electrical Contracts or Operations Manager within the building services sector ideally within a contracting environment. Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, installation, and design principles. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of the marketplace and area are advantageous. Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or HNC/HND). Full UK driving licence.
