Job summary

ISP School Battle in Battle, East Sussex, is seeking a One-to-One Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with progress and engagement. The role spans 22.5 hours per week across three days during term time, with duties including mentoring, lesson support, and activity supervision.

You will work under a teacher's guidance, report on progress, and help plan and prepare lessons while building positive pupil relationships. DBS check will be completed as part of safeguarding the school’s pupils.

Qualifications

• Strong educational background with GCSE English and Maths.
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role.
• Experience with SEMH pupils in education.
• Willing to lead on a specialism such as reading or maths.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or small group
• Support classroom teacher during lessons

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, 3 days per week, including accompanying a pupil to Plumpton College one day per week

Role Responsibilities

• Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil, or a small group of no more than five pupils
• Supporting the classroom teacher during lessons
• Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaising with other school staff to ensure pupils' needs are met
• Supervision of pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
• Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation
• Setting work where appropriate, and marking
• Building positive relationships with pupils and driving interaction and positive learning outcomes

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, for example as a Teaching Assistant
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to be able to lead on a specialism, for example reading, mathematics or forest school
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which will be met by ISP School Battle.
