Job summary

ISP School Battle is expanding its provision and seeks a Teaching Assistant to mentor and support pupils with diverse needs. You will assist classroom teachers, report on progress and liaise with staff to ensure goals are met.

The role requires GCSE English and Maths, prior TA experience, and the ability to lead a subject area such as reading, maths or forest school. DBS check will be arranged by the school.

Qualifications

  • Strong basic education with GCSE English and Maths at C or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar.
  • Experience with SEMH pupils in an educational setting.
  • Ability to lead on a specialism (e.g., reading, mathematics or forest school).
  • Experience of behaviour management.
  • Willing to complete enhanced DBS check (cost met by ISP School Battle).

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support one pupil, or a small group of no more than five pupils.
  • Support the classroom teacher during lessons.
  • Report on pupils' progress and concerns, liaising with staff to meet pupils' needs.
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and trips.
  • Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Set work where appropriate, and marking.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and drive engagement and learning outcomes.

Renowned for working with vulnerable children aged 7 to 16 with a wide range of complex needs, our mission is to provide each pupil with a diverse and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline and engagement, inspires learning and encourages aspiration and achievement.

We have expanded our special educational needs provision by opening a new school with capacity for 60 pupils in Battle, East Sussex.

The school is located within a country estate, with visually stunning surroundings.

Role Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Have a strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role, for example as a Teaching Assistant
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  • Be experienced and confident enough to be able to lead on a specialism, for example reading, mathematics or forest school
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which will be met by ISP School Battle.
