Job summary

Amey is recruiting a permanent Electrician for HMP Whatton, Nottingham. You will perform planned and preventative electrical maintenance, fault finding, and minor works across the prison, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

The role operates 39 hours per week (07:30–16:30, Sat–Thu; 07:30–15:30 Fri) with weekend rota allowances and a base salary £30,866–£36,135 depending on experience. Prison clearance will be required.

Qualifications

• Qualified electrician with City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent.
• Knowledge of BS7671 electrical regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience with planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties.
• Fault finding and problem solving on electrical systems.
• Carry out like-for-like replacements and minor electrical works with inspections and tests per BS7671.
• Ensure electrical systems are safe, compliant, and well-maintained for staff and residents.
• Assist Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are followed across work streams.

Job description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Whatton, New Lane, Whatton, Nottingham NG13 9FQ.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, between 07:30 - 16:30 Saturday to Thursday; 07:30 - 15:30 Friday. There will be a need to work some weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

The base salary is between £30,866 - £36,135 dependant on experience.

What you will do:

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
• Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
• Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
• You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

What you will bring:

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems, which will help you make an immediate impact. (Desirable)
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
• Basic IT skills.
