Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Electrician to join the HMP Featherstone facilities team, delivering essential electrical maintenance within a MoJ account. The role offers a 39-hour week on a rotating shift (07.45am–16.45pm) with a 1-in-4 weekend rotation and an additional 15% weekend allowance.

Salary ranges £30,866–£36,135 and includes security-focused responsibilities. You will perform planned maintenance, fault-finding, and system upgrades, ensuring safety and compliance across prison

Qualifications

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition (or 17th Edition with upskilling).
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights and use initiative.

Responsibilities

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like for like replacements; tests and inspections per BS7671.
• Ensuring all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functioning effectively.
• Assist the Responsible person and Authorized person when requested.
• Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work are followed.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Featherstone.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between 07.45am – 16.45pm. There will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

The base salary is between £30,866 - £36,135 dependant on experience.

What you will do

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
• Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
• Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
• You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

What you will bring

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems, which will help you make an immediate impact. (Desirable)
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
• Basic IT skills.
