Job summary

Amey is recruiting an Electrician for HMP Swansea, part of the MoJ facilities management team. The role covers planned and preventative electrical maintenance within a secure prison environment, ensuring safe and compliant electrical systems to support staff and residents.

The 39-hour week includes 1 in 3 weekend rota shifts with a 15% basic salary allowance. You will work under Health & Safety standards and collaborate with Responsible and Authorized Persons to maintain critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2367/2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
  • BS7671 18th Edition (or 17th Edition with upskilling) to 18th Edition.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Understanding of Fire alarm and CCTV systems (Desirable).
  • Basic IT skills.

Responsibilities

  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including admin duties.
  • Fault finding and problem solving on electrical systems across the facility.
  • Carry out like-for-like replacements and minor works with inspections as per BS7671.
  • Ensure electrical systems are safe, compliant and functioning to maintain security.
  • Assist the Responsible Person and Authorized Person when requested.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Assist escorting duties and other tasks as required.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Swansea.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis, there will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

What you will do:
  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
  • Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
  • Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
  • Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
  • Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
  • Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.
What you will bring:
  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
  • BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
  • Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative.
  • Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems, which will help you make an immediate impact. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
  • Basic IT skills.
