Job summary

Amey is seeking an On-Site Electrician for HMP Berwyn in Wrexham. The role focuses on planned and preventative electrical maintenance, fault finding, and safe operation within a high-security prison environment.

You will perform like-for-like replacements and ensure inspections meet BS7671 requirements, contributing to a secure, well-maintained facility. We offer 39 hours per week, with a 1 in 5 weekend rotation and a 15% shift allowance, and a base salary in the £30,866–£36,135 range, depending

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Level 2 electrical installation or equivalent.
• BS7671 knowledge with upskilling to 18th Edition considered.
• Good knowledge of health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance with admin duties.
• Fault finding and solving electrical issues in the prison.
• Carry out like-for-like replacements with inspections and tests per BS7671.
• Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functional.
• Assist Responsible and Authorised persons when requested.
• Maintain health & safety standards and safe systems of work across streams.
• Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Electrician in HMP Berwyn, 139 Bridge Rd, Wrexham LL13 9QE.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (shift pattern - Mon-Thurs 07:30 -16:30, 07:30 – 15:30 Fri).

1 in 5 weekends with a 15% shift allowance.

The base salary is between £30,866 - £36,135 dependant on experience.

What You Will Do

• Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
• Actively fault finding / problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
• Carry out like for like replacements and other electrical minor works with the relevant electrical inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
• Ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively helping to create a secure and well-maintained environment for staff and residents.
• Assist the Responsible person and Authorised person when requested.
• You’ll be responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all appropriate work streams.
• Assist escorting duties and other duties as required.

What You Will Bring

• City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
• BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
• Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
• Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative.
• Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems, which will help you make an immediate impact. (Desirable)
• Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at work Regulations.
• Basic IT skills.
