Job summary

Amey is recruiting a permanent General Building Engineer to join the HMP Swansea site on a 39-hour week, on-site with shift allowance. You will support maintenance across the prison estate, focusing on safe, compliant building services and security systems.

The role requires hands-on experience in fire safety, door and extinguisher maintenance, RCD testing and water temperature checks, with a willingness to work in a custodial environment and obtain prison security clearance.

Qualifications

• Experience in fire safety and general building maintenance.
• Familiarity with CCTV and alarm systems.
• Ability to work in a custodial environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and managing remedial tasks in the CAFM system.
• Performing general and semi-skilled maintenance activities, including security systems like CCTV and alarms.
• Conducting monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and hoses.
• Completing quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units.
• Maintaining fire doors and performing flushing and tap temperature tests as per water risk assessments.
• Undertaking monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
• Checking and testing smoke vents as required.
• Carrying out any other duties as required.
