Job summary

Amey is offering a permanent General Building Engineer role based at HMP Cardiff on-site. You will be part of a facilities management team supporting His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service, ensuring safe, compliant maintenance across the site.

The role covers securing parts, CCTV/alarms, fire safety testing, RCD checks, emergency lighting, and annual inspections, with a 39-hour week and a 15% shift allowance. The position requires prison security clearance, which Amey will assist with.

Qualifications

• Experience in general building maintenance within high-security environments.
• Proven ability to perform CCTV/alarms and fire safety checks.
• Willingness to obtain prison security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure availability of parts for statutory tasks and manage remedial tasks in CAFM.
• Carry out general and semi-skilled maintenance including CCTV and alarms.
• Perform monthly tests of fire extinguishers, hydrants and hoses.
• Complete quarterly RCD testing and inspect misting units.
• Maintain fire doors and test water-risk related flushing and temperatures.
• Conduct monthly/annual emergency lighting checks and test smoke vents.
• Undertake other duties as required.
