Job summary

SSE plc seeks a Lead Engineer to shape the engineering strategy for a multi-billion-pound offshore wind project, guiding design development from early development through delivery milestones.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, manage interfaces across project, commercial, procurement and consenting, and ensure engineering outputs balance technical performance, cost, risk and long-term asset value.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading design development of large-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent planning and organisational capabilities delivering high-quality outputs.
• Strong understanding of commercial drivers balancing technical excellence with cost and risk.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the project's engineering strategy, design basis and engineering programme.
• Build, lead and coordinate a high-performing multidisciplinary design team across the project lifecycle.
• Act as the accountable lead for engineering design development, managing interfaces and collaboration across functions.
• Oversee engineering consultants and third-party organisations to ensure high-quality outputs and documentation.
• Provide clear reporting to senior stakeholders on progress, risks, opportunities and key decisions.
