Job summary

SSE plc seeks a Lead Engineer to shape the engineering strategy for a multi-billion-pound offshore wind project, guiding design development from early development through delivery milestones.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team, manage interfaces across project, commercial, procurement and consenting, and ensure engineering outputs balance technical performance, cost, risk and long-term asset value.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading design development of large-scale energy or infrastructure projects.

Base Location:

You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen other SSER locations can be considered.

Salary:

£59,800 - £89,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern:

Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role

As Lead Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of some of the UK's most significant offshore wind developments.

Leading all engineering design development activities for a multi-billion-pound project, you'll drive the engineering strategy from early development through key investment and delivery milestones.

Working at the heart of a complex, multidisciplinary programme, you'll bring together engineering expertise across multiple workstreams to develop a technically robust, commercially competitive project that is positioned for success in future Contracts for Difference (CfD) allocation rounds.

You'll work closely with project, commercial, consenting, procurement and delivery teams to ensure engineering decisions strike the right balance between technical performance, risk, cost, constructability, operability and long-term asset value.

You will

• Lead the development and delivery of the project's engineering strategy, design basis and engineering programme, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives and key development milestones.
• Build, lead and coordinate a high-performing multidisciplinary design team, providing clear technical leadership across all engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
• Act as the accountable lead for engineering design development, managing interfaces and driving collaboration across project, commercial, procurement, consenting, finance and delivery functions.
• Oversee engineering consultants and specialist third‑party organisations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical outputs, specifications, works information and engineering documentation.
• Provide clear and effective reporting to senior stakeholders, communicating progress, risks, opportunities and key engineering decisions while supporting informed project investment and development decisions.

You have

We're looking for an experienced engineering lead who combines technical expertise with commercial awareness and the ability to influence across a complex stakeholder environment.

• Significant experience leading the design development of large‑scale, high‑value energy or infrastructure projects, ideally within offshore wind or related sectors.
• A proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams within both direct and matrix management structures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
• Excellent planning and organisational capabilities, with a track record of delivering high-quality engineering outputs to demanding timescales.
• A strong understanding of the commercial drivers behind project development and the ability to balance technical excellence with cost, risk and delivery considerations.
