Job summary

The Geotechnical Engineer role at SSE sits within our Engineering Team, delivering geotechnical strategies for offshore wind projects across the UK and Europe. You’ll influence project decisions, manage risk and guide technical solutions through development, construction and operation phases.

You’ll collaborate with specialists and suppliers, plan ground investigations, data interpretation, and model foundations and cable installations, while ensuring HSE and sustainability requirements are met.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree or equivalent in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline.
• Chartered status or active progression towards professional accreditation.
• Experience in offshore ground investigations, laboratory testing, geotechnical interpretation and foundation design; geohazard management and cable design/installation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver geotechnical strategies that support offshore wind projects throughout their lifecycle, providing technical leadership, risk management and input into project programmes and delivery plans.
• Plan, coordinate and execute geotechnical activities including offshore ground investigations, laboratory testing, geotechnical interpretation, ground modelling, foundation engineering and cable installation assessments.
• Work with project, engineering and procurement teams to scope, specify and manage consultants and contractors, ensuring technical excellence and commercial value.
• Review and challenge third-party studies and designs, including desk studies, foundation designs, driveability assessments and sediment mobility studies.
• Support projects through DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX planning, driving continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with HSE and sustainability requirements.
