Job summary

Metro is seeking a customer-focused Ocean Export professional to join our Birmingham HQ team, handling international exports of chemical and hazardous cargo with strict compliance and exceptional service.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, communicating with overseas partners, managing documentation, and using Cargowise, SAP and ERP systems to support customers across water treatment and chemical sectors.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of ocean freight operations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to coordinate with overseas agents, suppliers and customers.
• Comfortable using ERP systems and Microsoft Office; Cargowise experience a plus.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with strong numerical sense.

Responsibilities

• Manage exports of hazardous & non-hazardous chemical products across global markets.
• Ensure compliance with IMDG regulations and dangerous goods documentation.
• Arrange haulage with shipping lines and ensure dispatch readiness.
• Manage invoicing and document checks with precision.
• Resolve queries quickly and professionally.
• Communicate clearly with overseas agents, suppliers, and customers.
• Navigate ERP and SAP systems to support client operations.
• Support customers within water treatment & chemical sectors with specialist logistics solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Ocean Customer Services team, you will be the heartbeat of our international freight operations, ensuring goods travel smoothly across borders and oceans. Your role will include:

• Managing exports of hazardous & non-hazardous chemical products across global markets.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone who’s not just experienced, but passionate about logistics. You will need:

• Solid knowledge of ocean freight operations
• A sharp eye for detail and understanding of its commercial impact.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong numerical and commercial acumen.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and Windows systems (Cargowise experience is a plus).
• A proactive, team-oriented mindset with great time management.
