Job summary

Metro in Birmingham is seeking a customer focused Freight Operator to join our Automotive Operations team. You will coordinate multimodal transport solutions across ocean, air and road, ensuring time critical supply chain movements are delivered with exceptional service.

You will build strong relationships with customers, carriers and overseas partners, navigate ERP and SAP systems, and help deliver seamless freight movements while maintaining accuracy in documentation and invoicing.

Qualifications

• Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or transport operations.
• Ability to coordinate time-critical shipments across multiple modes.
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with ERP systems such as Cargowise and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Manging end to end shipments across ocean, air and road freight services.
• Building strong relationships with customers and acting as a trusted point of contact.
• Coordinating with carriers, hauliers, overseas partners and suppliers to ensure seamless freight movements.
• Monitoring shipment progress and proactively resolving issues to minimise disruption.
• Preparing and checking shipping documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Managing invoicing and document checks with precision.
• Resolving queries quickly and professionally.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Automotive Operations team, you will play a vital role in managing time critical supply chain movements for our major automotive customers. Coordinate freight across multiple transport modes, building strong customer relationships while ensuring operational excellence at every stage. Your responsibilities will include:

• Manging end to end shipments across ocean, air and road freight services

• Coordinating with carriers, hauliers, overseas partners and suppliers to ensure seamless freight movements
• Monitoring shipment progress and proactively resolving issues to minimise disruption.
• Preparing and checking shipping documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Managing invoicing and document checks with precision.
• Resolving queries quickly and professionally.
• Communicating clearly with overseas agents, suppliers, and customers.
• Navigating ERP and SAP systems to support client operations.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone who combines operational expertise with a passion for delivering excellent customer service, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience within freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain or transport operations
• Knowledge of one or more freight modes including ocean, air or road freight
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong numerical and commercial acumen.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and Windows systems (Cargowise experience is a plus).
• A proactive, team-oriented mindset with great time management.
• Enthusiasm, flexibility, and self-motivation
