Job summary

Metro is seeking an Ocean Export Customer Services professional to join our Birmingham HQ. You will manage international exports of chemical and hazardous cargo, ensuring full compliance and delivering exceptional service to global customers.

In this fast-paced role you will coordinate with overseas agents, shipping lines, and internal teams, navigate ERP and SAP systems, and drive accurate invoicing and documentation while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience in ocean exports and hazardous cargo documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with commercial awareness.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage exports of hazardous & non-hazardous chemical products across global markets.
  • Ensure compliance with IMDG regulations and dangerous goods documentation.
  • Arrange haulage with shipping lines and ensure dispatch readiness.
  • Handle invoicing and document checks with precision.
  • Resolve queries with overseas agents, suppliers and customers.
  • Navigate ERP and SAP systems to support client operations.
  • Support customers in water treatment & chemical sectors with logistics solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Ocean Customer Services team, you will be the heartbeat of our international freight operations, ensuring goods travel smoothly across borders and oceans. Your role will include:

  • Managing exports of hazardous & non-hazardous chemical products across global markets.
  • Ensuring compliance with IMDG regulations and dangerous goods documentation requirements.
  • Arranging haulage with shipping lines and ensuring dispatch readiness.
  • Managing invoicing and document checks with precision.
  • Resolving queries quickly and professionally.Communicating clearly with overseas agents, suppliers, and customers.
  • Navigating ERP and SAP systems to support client operations.
  • Supporting customers within the water treatment & chemical sectors with specialist logistics solutions.
What You’ll Bring

We are looking for someone who’s not just experienced, but passionate about logistics. You will need:

  • Solid knowledge of ocean freight operations
  • A sharp eye for detail and understanding of its commercial impact.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong numerical and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and Windows systems (Cargowise experience is a plus).
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with great time management.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and self-motivation
