Overview
We are currently recruiting Band 5 occupational therapists permanently on our rotational scheme. We offer a six-month rotational programme across 10 clinical areas including elective/trauma orthopaedics, renal medicine, oncology, STAT (A&E), general medicine, surgical and vascular services, OPU (older people), stroke, critical care, bedded rehabilitation unit, community falls team and intermediate care services. We are looking for highly motivated occupational therapists with excellent communication and organisational skills to join the occupational therapy department. Staff will be required to participate in all areas of the rotation and 7-day services. Rotations cover both the acute hospitals at Guy’s and St Thomas’, Royal Brompton Hospital, and a number of community posts in Lambeth and Southwark.
Responsibilities
- To participate in designated rotations.
- To be responsible for the assessment, treatment, implementation and documentation of Occupational Therapy interventions within nominated clinical specialities.
- To develop positive and collaborative working relationships across Health and Social Care.
- To be responsible for the maintenance and development of own CPD and continuous learning.
Clinical
- To be responsible for providing individual client centred assessments both in the hospital and the patient’s home environment within designated rotational specialities whilst ensuring occupation focused practice.
- To address Occupational Performance skills, patterns, context or contexts and activity demands in collaboration with patients and carers utilising a theoretical model of practice.
- Through analysis and synthesis of findings develop individual goal and task orientated treatment plans in collaboration with patients, carers and colleagues.
- To carry out physical and functional assessments and treatments using dexterity, coordination, manual and sensory skills to facilitate and promote functional independence.
- Ensure reviews demonstrate clinical reasoning and problem solving techniques to determine agreed outcomes across health and social care.
- Accurately record all professional judgements and decisions taken, keeping records of plans in accordance with Occupational Therapy Policies.
- To maintain high standards of patient care working within the Occupational Therapy Code of Conduct and Occupational Therapy Service Standards and Procedures. To maintain confidentiality consistent with Trust and Service Policies.
- Use effective interpersonal skills to encourage patients and carers active participation in the Occupational Therapy process.
- Act as an advocate on behalf of patients and carers by adopting a client centred approach in order to support meaningful participation in their life roles.
Professional Development / Management / Research and Quality Improvement
- Maintain Professional Status and keep knowledge and skills up to date by engaging in continuous professional development. Actively participate in internal and external post registration education programmes. Use experience, published evidence base for practice, critical reflection and self-evaluation to enhance the contribution of Occupational Therapy with patients and service delivery.
- Use supervision and performance development plans to promote personal effectiveness and clinical expertise.
- To identify personal competency limitations in relation to clinical practice and seek advice and guidance as appropriate.
- Share acquired knowledge and skills with colleagues to build and sustain professional relationships.
- To contribute to quality monitoring and audit programmes through participation in multi-professional and service led initiatives.
