Purpose of the Role

A Nursery Practitioner (also called an Early Years Practitioner) is responsible for supporting the learning, development, and well‑being of children from birth to five years old. The role ensures children are cared for in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment, while following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Child Development & Care

  • Provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care.

  • Plan and deliver age‑appropriate activities that encourage learning through play.

  • Observe, assess, and record children’s progress, sharing updates with parents/carers.

  • Support children with personal care routines (feeding, toileting, hygiene).

• Environment & Safety

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment.

  • Ensure all safeguarding, health, and safety policies are followed.

  • Be aware of and respond to children’s individual needs, including allergies, medical conditions, or cultural requirements.

• Partnership with Families

  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers.

  • Provide daily feedback on children’s activities, progress, and well‑being.

  • Work collaboratively with families to support children’s development.

• Teamwork & Professionalism

  • Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture.

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
