Job summary

The Isle of Wight Newport Nursery, part of YMCA Fairthorne Group, is seeking an experienced Lead Practitioner to join the nursery leadership team. You’ll help strengthen practice across the setting, support children who may need extra help to thrive, and coach colleagues to embed high standards of care, safeguarding and inclusion.

Based at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight, the role offers meaningful time with children in rooms and outdoor spaces, with a focus on early identification of

Qualifications

• Must have an EY qualification at Level 5 (or equivalent) and willingness to develop.
• Experience leading practice and coaching colleagues in an EY setting.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion practices.
• Able to identify and respond to children with additional needs and SEND.

Responsibilities

• Lead practice across the nursery and support practitioners.
• Observe children to identify where additional support is needed.
• Develop and implement support plans for individual children.
• Coordinate referrals and next steps for specialist support.
• Coach colleagues and model high EY standards.
• Support safeguarding and health and safety across rooms.
• Deputise for the Nursery Manager when required.
