Job summary

YMCA Fairthorne Group is seeking a Lead Early Years Practitioner for the Isle of Wight Newport Nursery. You will join the nursery leadership team, support children who may need extra help to thrive, and coach colleagues to embed high-quality practice across rooms and outdoor spaces.

You’ll work closely with families to identify needs early, assist with safeguarding and health & safety, and deputise for the Nursery Manager when required. This is a role with wider impact on children and teams.

Qualifications

• Ideally hold a Level 5 Early Years or Childcare qualification.
• Experience as Level 3 practitioner considered if willing to develop further.
• Strong safeguarding and health & safety understanding.
• Paediatric First Aid/Designated Safeguarding Lead training is valuable.

Responsibilities

• Lead across the nursery, supporting children, practitioners and leaders.
• Observe children and help identify where additional support is needed.
• Coach practitioners and model high Early Years practice.
• Develop and monitor appropriate support plans for children with needs.
• Coordinate referrals and next steps for specialist support.
