Job summary

YMCA Fairthorne Group is seeking a Lead Early Years Practitioner to join the Newport nursery leadership team. You will support children who need extra help to thrive and coach staff to raise practice across rooms, while safeguarding and promoting inclusive early years provision.

You’ll balance time with children with leadership tasks, ensuring early identification of needs and coordinated referrals to targeted support, contributing to nursery improvement priorities.

Qualifications

• Level 5 Early Years or Childcare qualification preferred
• Experienced Level 3 practitioners considered with background and development potential
• Experience in Early Years setting and improving practice
• Ability to model good practice and coach colleagues
• Understanding of child development and behaviour support
• Knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety procedures

Responsibilities

• work alongside practitioners across the setting
• observe children and help identify where additional support may be needed
• support key persons to develop appropriate support plans
• help coordinate referrals and next steps where specialist support is required
• coach practitioners and model strong Early Years practice
• support colleagues to build confidence in SEND, behaviour and inclusion
• contribute to nursery improvement priorities
• help embed high standards of care and practice across rooms
• support safeguarding and safe Early Years practice
• deputise for the Nursery Manager when required
• spend time directly with children in rooms and outdoor spaces
